About this study
This study explores how students authentically use generative AI for learning, capturing first-hand, in-the-moment feedback through brief in-person interviews.
Study Procedure

Meet a Student Research Assistant
On campus, a student research assistant may invite you to take part in a short intercept interview for this study.

Scan the QR Code
The assistant will show you a QR code to scan on your phone, which opens the survey and links your session to that recruitment point.

Verify Your Email & Receive Your ID
Enter and verify your HKU email address. Your anonymous participant ID is generated as soon as verification is complete.

Complete the Interview On the Spot
Fill in the survey and record your spoken response there and then, with the assistant present to help if needed.

Check the Announcement on 2 December
After responses are reviewed, a selection of participants will be offered Starbucks coupons (HKD 50). On 2 December 2026, selection results and Participant ID Lookup will become available — visit intercept.talic.hku.hk to see if your ID was selected.

Your anonymous participant ID is issued when you verify your email during the interview. Selection results will become available on 2 December 2026. From that date, use this search to see whether your ID was selected for a Starbucks coupon (HKD 50).

Keep a screenshot of your participant ID. On the announcement date (2 December 2026), open intercept.talic.hku.hk and search here for your result. Selected participants should visit the TALIC office within two weeks to collect their coupon.
Ethics Statement
By proceeding with the in-person intercept interview, the participant acknowledges that a trained researcher has verbally explained the study and that they have read and understood the information provided. The participant confirms that they voluntarily agree to participate and understand that they may withdraw at any time without negative consequences. They acknowledge their understanding of the procedures involved, including that the interview will be audio-recorded for research purposes and that the date of participation will be automatically recorded upon completion on the interview platform. The participant also understands that no written signature is required for participation in this study.
